David was the only art teacher I had, who encouraged my feeble attempts at drawing. He never disparaged my efforts as "abstracts" as others did. A lovely man and a great teacher.

David taught me how to really draw, I think about him often, class of 1982 Invercargill. 40 years later I am still.
My heartfelt thank you.

I was saddened to learn of David's passing. He was one of Life's gentlemen, very talented, and happy to share his vast knowledge. I went to his sculpting class at Polytech many years ago. During that course, I asked him if I could have a go on a pottery wheel and he told me what to do and how to go about it. Slurry ended up flying in all directions and people were moving away from where I was on the electric pottery wheel. I had slurry right up to my elbows and I was close to admitting defeat when David, being the absolute gentleman he was, stepped in to rescue the mess I was making. He had barely touched it and suddenly, he'd turned my soggy lump of clay into a small bowl, with only a small amount of slurry on his fingers! It was fired and glazed, and I still have it.
My condolences to David's family - the world needs more people like him.

Memories of a great couple in David & Mary. Salt of the earth people who could always be relied upon in whatever they were involved in. Friendly and helpful - we have many fond memories of them both

I have many great memories of David and his talents. His patience was endless especially when it came to the likes of me trying to get the clay to form a recognisable shape. A very gentle caring person. My condolences to his family.
