The train horn blasted one last time, and the guard called "ALL ABOARD" for Dave's final departure from the station on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Ascot Bupa. Dave Thomas, aged 73, Passed away after a courageous and long battle with Cancer. Loved son of Kathy and Red Thomas. Brother of Cindy Kennedy, Margie Stenton, Mike, Mark, Judy*, Lindsay and Russell*. Known and loved for his years on the NZ Railways and at Ace Couriers (Dave the courier). As per Dave's wishes a private service has been held, messages can be sent to 36 Ross Street, Grasmere, Invercargill.

Dave was real character when I knew him at the railways in Invercargill. He was always keen to guard the Otago Excursion Train on its trips from Invercargill and was always popular with the passengers and knew so many of them.
