Bernard WATSON Obituary

Peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Rowena Jackson Rest Home; aged 81 years. Dearly loved son of Ellice* and Bob* Watson. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Eleanor* and Owen* Hillas, Anne* and Daniel* Phillips, John* and Glenda* Watson, and Marion and John* Soundy. A much loved uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff of Rowena Jackson O'Byrne Wing for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Bernie during the latter years of his life. A service to celebrate Bernard's life will be held in the Avenal Park Chapel, 75 Fox Street, Invercargill, on Friday, January 24 at 10.00am, interment to follow at the Orepuki Cemetery at approximately 1.00pm. Messages to 25 O'Connor Place, Burnside, Christchurch 8053.

Bernie, you are one of my earliest memories in Orepuki, and a cherished member of the community. I know you'll be remembered for a very long time to come. You were a staple of our days, rain or shine, and members of each side of my family, stretched now across NZ and the world all had their own stories to share of you. These memories will be shared for as long as we're alive, and passed down. Thank you for everything you did for the community, and for being you. In this world we need Bernies, and you were the best Bernie I knew!
Love from me, and I know my Nana and Grandad (Bob and Lena Campbell, net door to the Orepuki Tavern) would want me to pass on their love to your loved ones, too. I'll be sure to pop in and visit next time I'm at the cemetery.
