Sad to hear, Alan and I shared a class at Southland Technocial Collage. Memories fading into the late 1960's and a art class we both enjoyed. God speed Alan.

My sincere sympathy to the Hammond family. I was saddened to read in the Southland Times that Alan has died. Alan worked in the display department at H&J Smith Invercargill in the latter 1960's with my late husband Alan King. We knew your Alan as 'Ghins'. He was such a handsome and lovely young man. Talented and a people person with a wonderfull sense of humour. There were a number of the younger staff, like us, who were in boyfriend /girlfriend relationships so we all got around together socially with Alan and his then girlfriend Wendy Smith who also worked at Smiths. Over the years Alan and I would reminisce the good old days of Smiths and Guins would often come up in our conversation. After reading through the messages I am so pleased he continued with his artistic talent which from a young age was showing so much promise.
Kindest regards

Such a sad day! My love to all Alan´s family xx
Alan was the older cool cousin and he was always so kind and patient with his annoying little cousins!
It was so lovely to connect with him again over Facebook and then we were so happy to see him in March when we were in NZ. Still the same, friendly guy, grateful for our impromptu pop in.
Your amazing wood skills sit, pride of place in our home in Aust with the beautiful bowl you made us for our wedding
RIP Alan from your Perth family xx

With Deepest Sympathy on the loss of a extremely talented & inspiring man. Alan made the most beautiful Duck caller for my father & was a gracious host when Dad & I called into see him with two little people along for the ride. Hold the memories you made together as a family close to your hearts cherished forever.

Oh this is so very sad to hear.

My memories of Alan, was that he was my `cool older cousin´ (he always seemed so much older than us when we were teenagers but the gap as adults is not big).
I remember seeing him and his mates on the verandah in his flat on George Street, music blasting, SO very COOL!
Calling in to the orchard at Millars Flat to see him and the fam, with Mum & Dad for a catch up on our way past heading to our holiday.
Laterly, it was lovely connecting on FB and seeing, commenting and `liking´ various things.
Whilst we had cuzzies of our own age and then our older group of cuzzies that we didn´t know quite the same, we always knew and heard what they were all up to through our family.... and that´s the thing isn´t it.
FOREVER family, linked by our STENNING heritage and,
THAT..... is very cool!
HUGE HUGS and thoughts to you Jenny and to all our Hammond Clan, HUGE love, thoughts and hugs.
RIP Alan, love from your cuzzie and family in Perth xox

I have many fond memories of Alan Hammond. The craftsman, the philosopher, the artist and partisan, to name just some of his many talents. What a legend. I remember him in the 1970´s holding court like a great Roman Senator from his home in Moore Road, we hung onto his every word. My condolences to his loved ones.
