JOHN CHARLIE Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. John Charlie, age 70 years of Fort William First Nation, announce his peaceful passing in St. Joseph's Hospice on Friday, November 24, 2023 with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend .

John was born in Fort William on September 27, 1953. He was a man of many trades, holding jobs through the years in various industries, including logging, fishing, and Weendamaghan Treatment Center. John had a special spiritual connection with Anemki Wajiw running Pow Wows and gaining much knowledge and relationships with area Knowledgekeepers, and Elders. John loved being surrounded by people, always eager to make you smile, share a joke or pull your leg. Many would share these personal encounters with him at one of his favourite places to be, Chapman's Gas Bar or the casino.

John is survived by his wife Valerie (nee Bell). Mother of his children and special friend, Louise Collins. Children; Courtney (Dan), Jeremiah (Shivonne), Josh. Grandchildren; Shanelle, Andy, Dawson, Kailyn, Mason, Alexia, Jeremiah, Charisma, Tristian, Ozzy, Harmony, and Emily. Sibling; Dennis Charles (Paulette), Rochelle Johnson (Maggie) who was like a sister to him. And father-in-law Ed Bell.

He was predeceased by his parents, Angelique (nee Bannon), Dominique "Harry" Charlie. Siblings Dorothy, Valerie, Nathalie, Harvey, Lyle, and Frank "Kiddo". In-laws, Stan, and Catherine Collins, Angeline Bell and son Al Aubin.

A traditional wake for John will be held in the home of Louise Collins at 151 Mission Rd., FWFN. Wake will begin on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 and will continue to closing ceremonies, performed by Al Hunter on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 10 AM. A block of time is reserved for immediate family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
