Barry John (B.J.):
Aged 52 years. It is with great sadness, our family share the news of the passing of our loved and cherished Barry (B.J.) on 2 December 2017, at the Otago Community Hospice, after a brave battle, surrounded by his two favourite girls. Dearly loved husband of Robyn, adored father of Martin, beloved only son of Ida and John Burgess, much adored brother and brother-in-law of Jenny and Jeremy, Adele and David, and Megan, respected brother-in-law of Beverley and Alf, John and Tracey, Bruce and Lesley, Mary, Kathryn and Chris and a cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews of the Burgess and Martin families. His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks of Robyn and B.J.'s friends, the Burgess and Martin families and the wider Owaka community who have cared and supported B.J. through his long illness. A special mention of thanks to Dr Alison Cook and her team from the Owaka Medical Centre, the Nephrology and Oncology Departments at the Dunedin Hospital and the staff at the Otago Community Hospice for their continuous assistance in Barry's medical care. Our family acknowledges a huge debt of gratitude to the anonymous altruistic donor of Barry's second kidney transplant, extending and enriching his life for a further eight years. A service to celebrate B.J.'s life will be held on Friday, 8 December, at 1.30pm, in the Owaka Memorial Community Centre, followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at B.J's service. Messages to 723 Purakaunui Falls Road, Owaka 9586.
